MEETING MINUTES 
AMERICAN LEGION 
El Cajon Post 303
April 18, 2018
At 1800 - Post members to include Mike and Kay Wilson prepared and decorated the tables and setup the boardroom for the dinner and meeting.
At 1815 - Dinner started with plenty of Deli sandwiches from COSTCO ordered and picked up by Rob Tade. Also, there were several side dishes and desserts that were donated by Post members. These included, salad from Gladys, cookies from Wes, potato salad from Roger West and an April birthday cake ordered and picked up by Mike Wilson.
Numerous items were donated for the opportunity drawing which is used to fund the dinners.
April birthday member Bill McNichols, then WW II and Korean War Era Veterans were invited to come to the head of the line for dinner. The attendance sign-in sheet was passed around, and all present were annotated.
There were 50+ members and guests in attendance at the April meeting.
Opportunity drawing tickets were sold prior to the meeting which are used to help pay for the meal each month. The Post Commander urged people to buy tickets and stated this is how we get our “free” meals. Enough tickets were sold so as to be able to pay for the meal and to give two small cash prizes.
1900 - American Meeting Legion Post 303 was called to order by Post Commander Wes Schermann.
Chaplain - Don Showe offered an Opening Prayer and then we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to American Legion Constitution. Moment of Silence was rendered for the Marines killed in the helicopter accident. In the desert
The Post Commander pointed out the POW table to members.

All officers were present or accounted for to begin the meeting.
A Happy Birthday was wished for members with April birthdays.
Visitors and new Post members introduced themselves.
Visitors were recognized. 
Wes congratulated the Post members on all their activities which included:
A good April Fools day.
A good Easter and Passover.
Well attended breakfasts.
District 22 meeting-good to be able to say that the Post was over 100% in membership.
Post Commander Wes reminded post members to not talk during the guest speaker’s presentation.
2nd Vice Commander – Mike Wilson introduced Commander Robert Potter, USCG who gave a truly outstanding talk on the Coast Guard’s response to Hurricane Harvey in Texas. This was followed by numerous questions.
At the end of his presentation, he received a book on “THE COAST GUARD’s GREATEST RESCUES.
Officer Reports
1st Vice Commander - Mark Goodman was excused and Wes gave the membership report which indicated that we are over 100%.
The following new members were voted into post 303 from Post 1000:
Robert Clark and Robert Meyer
2nd Vice Commander - Mike Wilson. Mike gave a report on our participation in the upcoming El Cajon America on Main Street Program.
Also, he stated that Navy Captain Scott Mulvhill, CO Navy Base Coronado and an F18 pilot will be May’s speaker.
3rd Vice Commander - Eddie Murphy – Gave an update on the new compliance regulations.
Chaplain - Don Showe gave an update on the heath of a couple members.
Finance Officer - Anne Turschmann was welcomed back after her recent illness and gave an update on the post finances which are doing well.
There was enough money raised from the Opportunity Drawing to pay for the meal and give two small cash prizes.
Post Service Officer - Roger West –Roger stated there was an upcoming food drive but that members would have to register. He also mentioned that he was recruiting support for the Out-Reach/Recruiting Booth at the Walmart on Los Coches.
Adjutant - Rob Tade discussed:
Boys State luncheon.
Membership.
Duncan Hunter Golf event for Wounded Warriors.
Main Street Flag program and the need for volunteers to help out on the upkeep of the flag storage facility at the Elks Lodge.
The Adjutant then conducted nominations for the 2018-2019 slate of Post officers with the following results.
3rd Vice-Eddie Murphy-nominated and accepted.
2nd Vice-Mike Wilson-nominated and accepted.
1st Vice-Mark Goodman not present to accept the nomination, 
John Atkinson withdrew his nomination.
Post Commander-Wes Schermann -nominated and accepted.
The third round of nominations and voting will be conducted at our May meeting.
Post Commander - Wes Schermann’s report:
Stressed the need for new blood in the Post leadership
Thanks to Mike Wilson for the cake.
Thanks to Rob Tade for the deli sandwiches.
Saturday breakfast-Jimmy’s in Santee.
Reminded members of the recruiting booth at Wall Mart and the need for volunteers for the Main Street Flag Program
New Business-John Atkinson asked for a Moment of Silence in honor of the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush.
Good of The Legion- Bea Brunner, Carol Murphy and Kay Wilson put on a very moving ceremony regarding the Military Children’s Table which everyone appreciated.
The POW Flag was retired, and a Closing Prayer was offered by Post Chaplain Don Showe, then the meeting was adjourned.
An opportunity drawing was conducted by John Atkinson while the boardroom was cleaned up and supplies put away.
